From Rock Bottom to Running My Own Recovery Group

I didn't just stop using. I stopped being the person who needed to.

Three years ago, I was sleeping in my car. I'd lost my apartment, my job at a warehouse, and most of my family had stopped returning my calls. I'd been through two rehab programs — both times I relapsed within weeks of leaving. I genuinely believed I was one of those people who couldn't be helped. Four Weeks, Four Dimensions — I Found the Part of Me That Was Missing

The spiritual week wasn't what I expected. It wasn't religion. It was reconnection.

I'm a retired firefighter. 25 years on the job. I'd seen things that stayed with me long after I took the uniform off. I started drinking to quiet the images. When I retired, the drinking accelerated because the structure of the job was gone. My wife gave me an ultimatum. I chose her, but I didn't know how to choose myself.
